It voices the opinions of farmers in disagreement with the food industry and details the impacts on their lives and livelihoods from this new technology, and shines a light on the market and political forces that are changing what we eat.

The film decries the cost of a globalised food industry on human lives around the world, and highlights how international companies are gradually driving farmers off the land in many countries. Potential global dependence of the human race on a limited number of global food corporations is discussed, as is the increased risk of ecological disasters — such as the Irish potato famine (1845–1849) — resulting from the reduction of biological diversity due to the promotion of corporate-sponsored monoculture farming.

The issue of incorporating a terminator gene into plant seeds is questioned, with concern being expressed about the potential for a widespread catastrophe affecting the food supply, should such a gene contaminate other plants in the wild. Legal stories reported by the film related how a number of farmers in North America have been sued by the Monsanto Company; and the defendant of the Monsanto Canada Inc. v. Schmeiser case is interviewed.

The film shows how the industrialization of corn has all but eliminated the family farm, which is being replaced by larger and larger industrial farms. This trend reflects a larger industrialization of the North American food system, whereby, as was outlined in the film, decisions relating to what crops are grown, and how they are grown, are based more on economic considerations than their ramifications on the environment or the population. This is demonstrated in the film by the production of high fructose corn syrup, an ingredient found in many cheap food products, such as fast food.

COSM is a documentary that defines Grey’s spiritual ideals by walking the viewer through a series of works made for Grey’s masterpiece, The Chapel of Sacred Mirrors. Grey, known for his cosmic, anatomically detailed paintings of humans connecting with the universe, takes the viewer on a journey from birth to death in this non-profit gallery/gathering space created for community gatherings. Starting with artworks depicting the physical body, Grey’s work branches out into an exploration of various stages in a person’s psychic and spiritual development, culled from a complex mix of Eastern and Western philosophical and religious perspectives. One potent example is a painting of humans dissolved into pure light, rendered in a series of hyperbolic curves and light beams bouncing off one another. Grey explains the concepts and inspirations behind each piece, to be the focus of each scene. So what does all this have to do with Organic Farming and Natural Health? Part of the New World Order agenda is to remove the requirement for food labelling & to restrict and ultimately prohibit the sale of all natural health products. According to John Hammell, a legislative advocate and the founder of International Advocates for Health Freedom (IAHF), here is what we have to look forward to:

“If Codex Alimentarius has its way, then herbs, vitamins, minerals, homeopathic remedies, amino acids and other natural remedies you have taken for granted most of your life will be gone. The name of the game for Codex is to shift all remedies into the prescription category so they can be controlled exclusively by the medical monopoly and its bosses, the major pharmaceutical firms.”

However, this is just the tip of the iceberg; behind the Codex Alimentarius Commission are the United Nations and the World Health Organization, working in conjunction with the multinational pharmaceutical cartel and international banks. It is now a criminal offence in parts of Europe to sell herbs as foods. An agreement called EEC6565 equates selling herbs as foods to selling other illegal drugs. Action is being taken to accelerate bringing other European countries into ‘harmonisation’.

Yet Ian’s message is not all doom and gloom, concluding that the unfolding events present us with significant opportunity for true Political Alchemy.
